About Us

Founded in 1899 as a golf club, Ekwanok continues to operate primarily for the pleasure of the game, even as the membership embraces other sports plus fine and casual dining. Named consistently by national magazines as the number one golf course in the state of Vermont, and among the top classic golf courses in the country, Ekwanok prides itself on excellence in challenge of play and course maintenance.

From the panoramic views of the eastern side of the Green Mountains as the golfer plays down the first fairway, to the spectacular views of Manchester's signature white church steeple from the top of the hill on number seven, it's hard to keep one's head down to play the game!

From the inception of the Club, the founding members anticipated that those who played golf together would also choose to socialize together. Thus eating and having a beverage became integral to the Ekwanok membership. With the recent renovation of the Clubhouse, members enjoy many options for those pursuits. The enlarged Dining Room continues to entertain members who prefer a more formal setting. The Ouimet Room hosts a small bar and dining tables, and members often venture from the Ouimet Room to the outside veranda. The Travis Room, with its large bar and informal dining tables, is a gathering spot for post-golf beverages and/or family dinners.

In addition, an enthusiastic group of members and an internationally experienced tennis professional have made tennis a significant part of the Ekwanok experience. With four green clay courts available, players can usually find an opportunity to schedule a game of singles or doubles. Another popular social event at Ekwanok is bridge. Daily play is available and weekly, ACBL-sanctioned games led by a Director are scheduled, alternating between Ekwanok and the Dorset Field Club each Wednesday night. The addition of a Wednesday night dinner after bridge makes for a very special evening. And in 2019 we added competitive croquet, once an Olympic sport, to the array of sports activities available to the membership.
