Golf

Opened for play in 1900, the golf course at Ekwanok was the first 18-hole golf course in the United States that stood favorable comparison with some of the famous courses in the United Kingdom. Designed by Walter J. Travis and John Duncan Dunn, the course incorporates strategic bunkering, contoured greens, and an imaginative routing in which not more than two holes are oriented in the same direction. Thanks in part to the excellent Travis-Dunn design, Ekwanok is the only club in Vermont to have hosted a United States Golf Association tournament.

Set in a rolling valley beneath the Equinox Mountain in Southern Vermont, Ekwanok is renowned for its beautiful setting, immaculate condition, enduring charm and continued relevance in the modern era. Although slight changes have been made over the years to the greens, tees, and bunkers, Ekwanok has stayed true to its design from 1899. It is consistently ranked by Golfweek magazine as one of the top classic courses in America. And, as it was designed to be a walking course, Ekwanok is the last remaining course in Vermont with a caddie program.
