Other Activities

Ekwanok offers numerous other activities in addition to championship golf, including four green clay tennis courts; multiple indoor and outdoor dining locations; social bridge competitions; multiple children's clinics; and, most recently, the addition of croquet. The social aspect of the Club is best showcased in different events held throughout the season, ranging from special fine-dining events, traditional New England clambakes, a speaker series highlighting a variety of subjects of local and national interest, and special events such as Wine & Wickets.

Tennis

Although Ekwanok is known for its exceptional golf course and comprehensive golf program, Ekwanok also has an exciting and active tennis program. We are delighted to have Marc join the team promising an exciting future for our Tennis and Croquet Programs. Ekwanok's tennis program offers a wide range of clinics, lessons and ladder play as well as member/guest tournaments and Club Championships which are open to all level of players.

Dining & Social

Ekwanok provides its members and their guests with a wide variety of dining and social events from May to October. Casual dining, for both lunch and dinner, occurs in many locations inside and outside the Clubhouse. A cocktail party and dinner, open to all members and their guests, is held in connection with the Robert Todd Lincoln member-guest tournament; and two clambakes, complete with lobsters, chicken, hot dogs, and ice cream, are held during the season and are especially fun for children. Limited-seating fine-dining events are held on special evenings and certain dinners are scheduled in conjunction with social events, such as golf tournaments, and bridge events. Ekwanok is also the venue for member-sponsored private parties, such as luncheons, cocktail gatherings, barbeques, birthday parties, rehearsal dinners, and wedding receptions.

Bridge

Ekwanok boasts an active bridge community that includes weekly lessons. Members schedule weekly games at the Club. Organized, ACBL-sanctioned (granting masterpoints) games with the Dorset Field Club occur throughout the season. Partners will be provided as available, and guests are welcome.

The weekly organized games are generally scheduled for Wednesdays, beginning at 4:00 p.m. and ending around 7:00 p.m., with dinner service to follow. These dinners are open to ALL players, their guests and/or non-playing spouses, as well as other Ekwanok members.

Croquet

Do not imagine that this is the game you remember playing in the backyard growing up. It has its similarities, but "competitive croquet" is quite a bit more challenging than the backyard variety. Still a time-honored ball-and-mallet game that has been played all around the world (including at the South Pole) for centuries, competitive croquet is a game of strategy, skill, and tactics that can have a serious look to it, while still being full of fun and amusement.

We even found mention of the possible introduction of croquet to the Club in 1904 (four years after it was an Olympic event at the Paris games), and we thought it would be fun to give it a go in the 21st century.

This was an experiment for us in 2019, and it turned out to be an instant hit. Our grounds personnel did a phenomenal job of constructing from scratch a superb, regulation croquet court - which a member of the United States Croquet Hall of Fame, who has given several clinics at Ekwanok, describes as "one of the best in America." The Club has developed a "croquet cottage" adjacent to the court to serve as a mini-clubhouse for croquet. Several members, with personal experience in competitive croquet, and the Club's tennis professional, provide expert - and encouraging - instruction. The Ekwanok membership has embraced the sport with enthusiasm, with ever-increasing play and activity, inter-Club matches, and even intra-Club matches among members, the Golf staff and the House staff. The sport has become a fun and exciting addition to the Ekwanok experience.
